As the high-speed railway station, Harbin West Railway Station positions its forecourt square as a civic leisure space while meeting the requirements for the evacuation of traffic and pedestrian flow from the train station. The square includes a social vehicle parking lot with 800 parking spaces, a public bus parking building accommodating 10 bus routes, a railway exhibition hall, and a riverside commercial street along the landscaped green belt of Hejia Creek. Different themed and sized civic activity areas are arranged based on the stepped topography and the Hejia Creek flowing through the site, transforming these spaces into a stage where visitors and citizens become the performers, creating an engaging interactive relationship of watching and being watched. The overall design of the Harbin West Station West Square will prompt people to rethink and redefine the essence of the forecourt square in front of the train station, and also gain a renewed understanding of the distinctive contemporary vitality of Harbin.
